How to Delete Your Telegram Account?
Want to delete Telegram? Although this app may seem a bit "mysterious", deleting your account is actually not difficult—it’s just that the option isn’t found inside the app and is a bit hidden. Here are a few ways to delete your Telegram account.
✅ Method 1: Manual Deletion (Official Recommendation)
Telegram does not provide a direct "Delete Account" button in the app, so you’ll need to visit a dedicated webpage.
Steps:
-
Go to this link: https://my.telegram.org/auth
-
Enter your phone number (be sure to include the country code, e.g., +86 for mainland China)
-
Telegram will send a verification code message to your Telegram app—not via SMS!
-
Enter the code on the website
-
After logging in, click "Delete Account"
-
Follow the instructions to confirm — your account, messages, contacts, and groups will all be deleted permanently and cannot be recovered!
⚠️ Important Notes:
-
Once deleted, all your chat history is gone, and the account cannot be recovered.
-
If you register again using the same phone number, it will be treated as a brand new account—just like a newborn.
-
If you only want a break, there’s no need to delete your account. You can simply log out or uninstall the app.
✅ Method 2: Auto-Deletion (Set Inactivity Period)
You can set a time period (e.g., 1 month, 3 months, 6 months...), and if you don’t log in during that time, Telegram will automatically delete your account.
How to Set It:
-
Open the Telegram App
-
Tap the menu icon (on Android) or go to "Settings" (on iOS)
-
Navigate to Privacy and Security
-
Find Delete my account if away for...
-
Choose a time period (up to 1 year)
That’s it! You can leave it alone, and Telegram will take care of the deletion for you.
